Don and I went to Chapel Hill and then Raleigh on Friday the 13th of April and spent the night in Bob and Julie's wonderful home in Raleigh. What a treat to have so much room on a beautiful lot with a huge "pond" at the end of the back yard. Don and I called it a lake but we were wrong. It is so quiet there but not remote. The lots are large and use shrubbery and trees beautifully as buffers between homes. Totally lovely. Bob and Julie fixed us a lovely breakfast and we had time to visit during and after that. Julie shared pictures of places/flowers/dresses/tuxedoes that are in her plans for their wedding August 4. I can't wait.
Before we arrived in Raleigh, we went to a Letterman's dinner in Chapel Hill and met our new coach as well as many of his assistant coaches. We sat with some very lovely people and shared lots of stories (some of them funny) about living around lettermen who are always going to have football as a priority in their planning/thinking.
The blue/white game was fun on Saturday afternoon. Just prior, we went to a barbecue at the Bell Tower for the lettermen. We sat in the Blue Zone and had access to a very nice inside area where even more food was offered. Don and I opted for a couple of soft drinks instead of the food. Don met a lady there who talked with him about a Women's Football Clinic that we did not know they still held each year. We have asked her to help us get information about that and we are awaiting her reply to our email about it.
I met another couple who sit in the blue zone currently for ball games. They switched to more private quarters since the wife said sitting in the area we used at the blue/white game was stressful due to crowding and people getting upset over the inadequate seating in inside area. Nothing of the sort happened at the blue/white game but she said crowding was 10 times worse during a real game.
The game was better than most spring games since they played a "real" first half and a speeded-up second half. (They did spot the White team for the second half because it was really behind the Blue team at the end of the first half.)
All in all, a great weekend of fun and visiting.
