We went to Greensboro on May 11 to see my family since John, Lauren, and Alexa were down from New Jersey for a few days. What fun to be in the company of an 18-month old and her family. My sister was so happy to have them there. Don and I had great fun. When we arrived, they were on the lawn with Alexa picking some clover out of the grass. After a brief visit, we went inside and I gave Alexa a little toy that says "Put me down" if you pick it up by its arms but then sings and dances when you do put it down. She hugged it tight. I was relieved since I didn't know if would be a "hit" or just frighten her. Little did she know that I had a Daffy Duck toy for later that does similar antics, only louder. Lauren read Alexa a book or two as she kept bringing them over to her mom. She seems to like stories from them. We discussed some about John's new job with Amazon and about Daniel's taking training to be a pet groomer. We are all so happy for both of them being able to start out on a new career adventure.
Daniel had a more technically difficult camera that he was using today. He is having fun learning about it and I think he and Don discussed it some over lunch.

After a bit, we decided to go eat early at Elizabeth's. Since there were 7 of us plus a toddler, we decided getting to the restaurant a little early made sense. Finally I got my Manicotti again!!! Heaven for me. Lauren got Chicken Marsala which I need to remember sometime. I had a bit and it was really really good. Miss Alexa had good appetite and had a really tomato-sauced-up face before long. Those Italian genes are coming forth, I guess and I am completely charmed by her.
Alexa is absolutely in love with animals of all types. She can identify regular farm animals as well as zoo animals. She has stuffed ones and little plastic ones all over and is quite happy to bring any of them to anyone who asks. All you have to do is say, bring me the giraffe and it is done. She isn't talking much yet but she surely understands what she is being asked to do.
After lunch, Don and John stayed with the baby while she napped and the rest of us went to Target. They were able to talk about some more technical Web "stuff" while we were shopping. At Target, I got Alexa a ballerina outfit (socks for shoes) for dress-up games. Lauren bought her several tops and looked for shoes in a little larger size than she currently has. I got myself a sun visor and a small black purse which I seem to lack (they are all usually so big that they are heavy to carry places). The kids also bought chocolates which they shared with others later.
We went home and Daniel wanted to go to another Target to get a camera that was on special there. He had called ahead and they only had 2 left so I went with him there. He got the camera and then went to PetSmart to get some clippers he needed for his pet grooming training. He got the clippers for half price by the time he got a discount from being a PetSmart employee and taking into account a sale they had going on that day. Pretty good job of shopping I would say. Then he went by a place and got a gift card for his mom for Mothers Day.
Back at my sister's, we put the ballerina outfit on Alexa, complete with wings which my sister bought to go with the outfit. I don't think Alexa knew what to think of it but when she saw herself in the mirror, she was happy with the look of it. Then we put on a new dress Lauren had for her and she looked sooo very good in it. After a while, she was starting to get tired again and Don and I knew they had things to do before her 8 p.m. bedtime. We left and stopped at a place called Family Fare for gas. Don went in and said it was one of the cleanest places like that he had seen and the guy behind the counter was very welcoming. We want to keep the place in mind for future visits as it is convenient for our way home from Greensboro. The first place we stopped must have had six or eight gas pumps with all of them having a sign that said "out of order." Frustrating - not worth getting off the road and back on for that!!
All in all a really great fun day. Loved the visit and pictures are below.
